Having become the world’s most popular T20 franchise cricket league, the IPL has now entered into the esports world. Global Esports recently became the only South Asian esports organization to secure a franchise slot in the Valorant International League. The organization fielded a ten-player roster for the upcoming VCT Kick-Off Tournament. However, the organization did not reveal the name of its IPL team. However, its founder met with the team behind the league to discuss the possibility of becoming a franchise member.
The IPL is expected to become the second most lucrative sporting property in the world, following the National Football League. It has already acquired media rights to the FIFA World Cup 2022, La Liga, and Abu Dhabi T10 cricket tournament. Several industry insiders expect the IPL media rights to hit the Rs 50,000 crore mark.
The first e-auction process for IPL rights was announced on March 29. An Invitation to Tender (ITT) document was released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It included details about the proposed media rights packages. The tender process will begin on March 29 and end on December 23. A mini-auction will take place in Kochi on December 23. The winning bidders for the domestic rights packages have been confirmed. The two packages are worth a total of $6.1 billion over five years.
The package A covers the domestic television rights of the IPL for India, while Package B covers the same rights for the rest of the world. In addition, each team will have a purse of INR 5 crores added to their total purse. This will allow each team to add players to their squad. Each franchise will be allowed to have a maximum of 25 players.
This auction is expected to be the largest in history. As of now, at least ten companies have acquired bid documents. The base price for Package A is Rs 49 crore per match. The base price for Package B is Rs 33 crore per match. The base price for Package D is $3 million per match.
The tournament will be broadcast in seven languages, and will feature ten teams, based on the states and cities of India. All matches will be played as two-month T20 leagues. Teams will be allowed to keep one player from their original squad, while bringing in an impact player. This player will be allowed to play a more active role in IPL matches. The impact player can only be used before the 14th over of either inning.
There are a total of 88 international players included in the ipl 2023 auction. The players are divided into two groups: Associate Nations and India. The teams will be allowed to bring in one additional foreign player. The teams will also have a purse of INR 5 crores to pay for the release of players.
The IPL 2023 auction will see the arrival of Sam Curran, who was named Man of the Match in the T20 World Cup 2022 final for taking three wickets. He is a high-profile all-rounder who is also expected to have a big influence in the auction. He is expected to cause a bidding war. He has already picked up seven wickets in nine T20 Internationals.
